Atishi’s New Government Portfolio Allocation for Delhi

Atishi Takes Charge: A New Era for Delhi’s Governance

On Saturday afternoon, Atishi took her oath as Delhi Chief Minister, marking a pivotal chapter for the national capital. She will oversee 13 departments, including education and finance, in a new cabinet with five members. First-time MLA Mukesh Ahlawat joins the existing ministers, but her tenure will be brief, with assembly elections approaching in February.

Cabinet Breakdown

The portfolio allocation shows Saurabh Bharadwaj managing eight departments, focusing on Health, Urban Development, and Social Welfare. Gopal Rai will oversee three departments, including Environment. Kailash Gehlot will handle four, notably Transport and Women and Child Development. Imran Hussain will lead the Food Supply and Election Department, while Mukesh Ahlawat will serve as SC/ST Minister and oversee four additional departments, including Labour.

Facing Challenges Head-On

The new government faces significant challenges. Fast-tracking pending policies and welfare initiatives, such as the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana and Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, will be priorities. Atishi emphasized her focus for the next four months will be the people of Delhi.

“The BJP has tried everything, from jailing AAP leaders to blocking development,” she stated. “They, along with the LG (VK Saxena), have halted roadworks, prevented medicines from reaching hospitals, and stopped tests in mohalla clinics. Garbage collection has also suffered. But now that Arvind Kejriwal is out of jail, I promise to complete these projects.”

A Call for Support

Atishi urged Delhi residents to support Kejriwal for his return as CM in the upcoming elections. She praised him for stepping down despite receiving bail from the Supreme Court in the excise policy case.

“It’s emotional for me that he is no longer chief minister,” she said. “He has always understood the pain of individuals. He ensured free treatment, improved the lives of government school students, and introduced free bus rides for women. The BJP has falsely implicated him and tried to undermine him.”

Looking Ahead

As Atishi begins her new role, all eyes are on her and her team. With pressing issues to tackle and a commitment to serve, the coming months will be crucial for her administration. The hope is that this leadership can restore faith in governance and deliver on promises made to the citizens of Delhi.
