His political career gained momentum as he served as a cabinet minister of Transportation in undivided Madhya Pradesh during the Digvijaya Singh government from 1999 to 2003. This experience allowed him to cultivate a deep understanding of governance and public administration.

One of his significant contributions to Chhattisgarh’s development was his initial role as Minister for Revenue, Public Health Engineering, and Relief Work. Through his various roles, Baghel has demonstrated his commitment to serving the public and working towards the betterment of his state.

Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh

Baghel’s political journey took a decisive turn when he reclaimed the Patan assembly seat, propelling him to become the Chief Minister of the state. In a historic victory, he triumphed over the incumbent BJP’s Raman Singh, ending their 15-year rule in the Chhattisgarh State Assembly. Sworn in on December 17, 2018, Baghel’s tenure marked a new era for the state.

During his time in office, Baghel made significant strides in fulfilling key electoral promises. He swiftly addressed the issue of farm loans by implementing a loan waiver, alleviating the burdens of farmers. Additionally, he demonstrated his commitment to agriculture by raising the paddy support price by an impressive 50%. These actions were marked by a sense of urgency, with the order being released shortly after his oath-taking ceremony.

Acknowledging the vital role of the agricultural community, Baghel also increased the prices for tendu patta collection, benefiting local gatherers. Another remarkable achievement was his departure from the temporary teacher policy, as he announced the opening of vacancies for 15,000 permanent teaching positions, signaling a significant investment in education.

Despite the immediate impact of his policies, there were challenges in the implementation phase, with delays in the actual disbursement of funds to farmers in some cases. However, Baghel’s leadership was characterized by proactive efforts to address these issues and deliver on his promises.
