On Friday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a strong critique against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). They directly accused the AAP of “ruining” Delhi’s economy. Moreover, the BJP highlighted that the city’s budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 faces a significant deficit of Rs 7,000 crore.
As of now, the AAP has not provided any response to these serious allegations. During a press conference, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj stepped forward to voice the party’s concerns. She accused the AAP of “account fudging” and called for an investigation by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to scrutinize the financial management.
Swaraj emphasized the consequences of the budget shortfall. For instance, she stated, “The AAP government eliminated 10,000 bus marshals last year due to a lack of provisions for their salaries”. Additionally, she pointed out that vocational teachers faced similar job cuts for the same reason. Such actions raise significant concerns about the government’s ability to fund essential services.
In her analysis, Swaraj identified reduced income and increased expenditures as key factors contributing to the deficit. This financial strain, she argued, has left the government unable to pay salaries and maintain critical services like garbage disposal.
Furthermore, Swaraj accused the AAP of prioritizing “publicity and corruption”. She argued that Arvind Kejriwal, the party’s leader, seems more focused on retaining power than on addressing the pressing needs of the people.
Bansuri Swaraj recently made her mark after winning election as an MP from the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. This victory represents her first time in this role.
As the budget crisis unfolds, both the AAP and the BJP find themselves under scrutiny. This contentious political landscape is likely to see further developments in the coming days.

Mr. Jain was in charge of the Trinamool Congress's IT cell, according to Ms. Banerjee.
