In a significant development, Andhra Pradesh DGP Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao has transferred the investigations into the alleged attacks on the TDP office and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence from 2021 to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). This decision, announced in an official statement on Monday, reflects ongoing efforts to address the unrest surrounding these incidents.
Tensions escalated in September 2021 when leaders from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) clashed outside Naidu’s residence in Undavalli. Following this, the situation intensified in October 2021 when over 100 YSRCP leaders and cadres reportedly stormed the TDP central office in Mangalagiri mandal. Such actions raised serious concerns about political violence in the state.
Mangalagiri sub-divisional police officer Murali Krishna explained, “The DGP made the decision to transfer the cases to the CID about two days ago.” He added that the superintendent of police (Guntur) has instructed the team to prepare the updated records for handover to the CID.
At this point, CID officials have not yet collected the case files. However, the district police will continue their investigation in the meantime.
So far, investigators have identified a total of 120 individuals affiliated with the YSRCP in connection with these incidents. Notable leaders include Jogi Ramesh and former Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh, who has already been arrested.
Additionally, police issued fresh notices for Appireddy, Raghuram, and Avinash to report to them on Monday. Importantly, Ramesh, Appireddy, and Avinash have received protection from arrest from the Supreme Court, with a hearing scheduled for October 21.
Mangalagiri DSP noted that police will issue notices for additional individuals in batches as the investigation progresses. The charges against the YSRCP leaders and cadres are serious. They include trespass, theft, attempted murder, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy.
Overall, the transfer of these cases to the CID marks a pivotal step in addressing political violence in the region. As investigations continue, the focus remains on ensuring accountability and upholding the rule of law in Andhra Pradesh. Consequently, the upcoming hearings and developments will draw close attention from both political observers and the public alike.
