Haryana Congress expels 10 leaders ahead of elections

Political Turmoil in Haryana: Congress Expulsions Ahead of Assembly Elections

Congress Party’s Expulsions

As Haryana prepares for the Assembly elections, political tensions are escalating. On Monday, the Congress party expelled ten leaders from its Haryana unit for six years due to their involvement in anti-party activities. This decisive action, therefore, underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline.

A statement from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) confirmed the expulsions. It stated, “The disciplinary committee, with the approval of the Hon’ble Congress president, has expelled the following individuals for engaging in activities against the party.”

The expelled leaders include:

  • Chitra Sarwara
  • Satvinder Rana
  • Kapoor Singh Narwal
  • Virender Ghoghrian
  • Somveer Ghasola
  • Manoj Kosliya
  • Ajit Guliya
  • Sharda Rathore
  • Lalit Nagar
  • Satveer Bhana

Recent Expulsions from the Congress

In addition, this decision follows another round of expulsions on September 27. During that instance, thirteen leaders were expelled for their anti-party actions. These individuals chose to run as independent candidates, thus opposing the party’s official nominees.

Notably, the earlier expelled leaders include Naresh Dhande, Pardeep Gill, Sajjan Singh Dhull, Vijay Jain, Abhijeet Singh, Dilbag Sandil, Rajiv Mamuram Gondar, and Ajit Phogat, among others.

BJP Takes Action

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also took action on September 29. They expelled Ranjit Singh Chautala and seven other leaders for opting to run as independents.

Among the notable figures expelled are former minister Ranjit Chautala and former MLA Devendra Kadyan. Additionally, the list includes Sandeep Garg, Zile Ram Sharma, Bachan Singh Arya, Radha Ahlawat, Naveen Goel, and Kehar Singh Rawat.

The Rise of Independent Candidates

These expulsions, consequently, highlight a growing trend. Many ticket hopefuls from both major parties have decided to run as independents after being denied nominations. This shift, therefore, could reshape the political landscape in Haryana.

Looking Ahead: Election Day Approaches

As a result, voting is set for October 5, with results to be counted on October 8. All eyes are on Haryana as the election date approaches.

In the previous election, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 40 seats. In contrast, the Congress secured 30 seats in the 90-member state assembly.
