In a recent rally in Haryana‘s Sirsa district, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal intensified his critique of the BJP-led government. He alleged that his arrest was a tactic to label him a “chor” (thief). Moreover, Kejriwal, who recently resigned as chief minister of Delhi after being granted bail in the excise policy case, was in Rania to rally support for AAP candidate Harpinder Singh ahead of the October 5 state assembly elections.
During the roadshow, Kejriwal reflected on his five-and-a-half months in jail. He emphasized the injustice of his situation. “What was my crime?” he asked the crowd. “It’s simply that I served as chief minister of Delhi for 10 years and focused on quality education for the poor.” Additionally, he highlighted his administration’s achievements, such as eliminating power cuts and providing free electricity in Delhi and Punjab.
Kejriwal also pointed out the significant investments made under his leadership. For instance, he mentioned the Rs 3,000 crore spent on the free electricity initiative. “If I were a ‘chor,’ I could have pocketed that money,” he declared. Thus, he reinforced his commitment to transparency and integrity. Furthermore, he challenged the BJP‘s record, questioning, “Who is the real ‘chor’—the one who offers free electricity or the one who charges for it?”
The former chief minister addressed his imprisonment directly. He stated, “They tried to break me mentally and physically. They even stopped my medications.” Despite these challenges, he asserted that his resolve remains unshaken. “You can try to break anyone’s spirit, but not that of a Haryanawala,” he proudly declared.
Kejriwal made it clear that his purpose in Haryana is not to regain power. He willingly resigned from his position. “If you think I’m corrupt, don’t vote for me. But if you believe in my honesty, then support me,” he urged the electorate. His message was one of accountability: “If you give me a certificate of honesty, I will take my place as chief minister.”
Moreover, Kejriwal praised the people of Haryana for their contributions. He said, “Your son and brother have made Haryana’s name known across the country and the world.” He urged voters to give AAP a chance to serve the state, promising to build schools and provide free electricity.
Kejriwal also addressed skepticism about AAP’s ability to form a government. He insisted, “Whatever government is formed, it will not be without us.” Thus, he expressed confidence that the demand for ‘badlav’ (change) in Haryana is strong. He believes the upcoming elections will reflect the people’s desire to oust the ruling party.
As the October 5 elections approach, Kejriwal‘s message is clear: he is campaigning not just for votes but for significant transformation in Haryana. With a blend of experience, integrity, and a vision for the future, Kejriwal aims to resonate with the electorate’s aspirations for change.
