In a noteworthy development ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, Kamlesh Singh, the only legislator from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Jharkhand, has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This strategic move comes after Singh withdrew his support from the Hemant Soren-led government last November.
At a welcoming ceremony held at the party headquarters, Singh received a warm greeting from Jharkhand BJP president Babulal Marandi. Additionally, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the event, highlighting the BJP‘s focus on electoral preparations in Jharkhand.
Singh decided to leave the NCP primarily due to his demand for Hussainabad, located in Palamu district, to gain recognition as a separate district. When the Soren government failed to address this request, Singh chose to seek a new political alignment.
The ongoing political turmoil within the NCP in Maharashtra further complicated Singh‘s situation. Consequently, he aligned himself with the Ajit Pawar-led faction, which has formed an alliance with the BJP. This shift marks a significant realignment in regional politics.
As the assembly elections draw near, Singh’s move to the BJP could lead to major implications for both his political career and the overall electoral dynamics in Jharkhand.
Ultimately, the upcoming elections will test how well this realignment resonates with voters. It remains to be seen how Singh’s new affiliation will influence the political landscape in the state.
