In a dramatic turn of events, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been granted bail by the Supreme Court, after spending nearly six months behind bars in connection with the controversial liquor policy scam. This marks a significant moment in what has become a high-profile legal and political saga, following his earlier temporary release just before the Lok Sabha elections.
The Supreme Court’s decision, delivered on a rainy Friday morning by Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Surya Kant, marks a pivotal development in Kejriwal’s case. The Chief Minister, who has been detained without a trial, will now be able to leave Tihar Jail. Despite the relief of bail, Kejriwal faces stringent restrictions. He is barred from returning to his office or the Delhi Secretariat and cannot sign official documents without the consent of Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.
The case, pursued by the Enforcement Directorate and involving allegations of corruption related to Delhi’s liquor policy, has been a focal point of intense scrutiny and political debate.
As Kejriwal emerged from prison, his supporters, undeterred by the heavy downpour, gathered to welcome him. In a heartfelt address, Kejriwal expressed profound gratitude to both his supporters and the divine. “First of all, I thank God for His blessings that have brought me here today. I also extend my thanks to the lakhs and crores of people who stood by me and endured the downpour to show their support,” he said.
His speech was not just a display of gratitude but also a reflection of his resilience. “Every drop of my blood is dedicated to the nation. Despite the challenges and hardships I faced, I have always felt that God has been with me. They placed me in jail with the intention of breaking my spirit, but I stand here today with my morale stronger than ever, no prison can weaken me,” Kejriwal declared.
Kejriwal‘s words carried a message of defiance and renewed strength. “They believed that incarcerating me would crush my resolve. However, I want to make it clear that I have emerged from jail with my spirit and determination significantly strengthened. My resolve is now a hundred times more robust, and my strength has increased a hundredfold,” he proclaimed.
This release opens a new chapter in Delhi’s political landscape. While Kejriwal is currently unable to perform his official duties, his return to public life will likely reignite political discussions and strategies, both within Delhi and on the national stage.
As the legal proceedings continue and political reactions unfold, the impact of Kejriwal’s bail and his subsequent actions will be closely watched. The saga is far from over, and the future may bring further developments in this ongoing political drama.
