Bengaluru, August 11, 2026: A fresh political confrontation has erupted in Karnataka over the proposed Bidadi Township project, with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar strongly criticising the BJP-JD(S) alliance for its ongoing padayatra against the project.
The controversy has brought farmers, land acquisition, compensation, urban development and Karnataka politics into the centre of a growing political battle between the ruling Congress and the BJP-JD(S) opposition alliance.
The JD(S), backed by the BJP, began a padayatra opposing land acquisition connected with the proposed Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT)/Bidadi Township project. The march began on August 9 from Byramangala, one of the villages affected by the proposed land acquisition.
