Kannada Activists Approach Bengaluru IT Companies, Demand More Jobs for Local Youth

The campaign, reportedly named 'Agraha Abhiyan', focuses on understanding how many Kannadigas are working in the state's IT sector and whether local youth are getting a fair share of employment opportunities.
100 IT Companies Approached in Bengaluru
As part of the campaign, Kannada activists reportedly visited around 100 IT companies in Bengaluru on the first day. They divided themselves into 10 teams and approached company representatives to submit memorandums.
Their main demand is simple: IT companies operating in Karnataka should also create sufficient employment opportunities for qualified candidates from the state.
The activists want companies to share details about their workforce, particularly the number of Kannadigas employed in their organisations.
What Are Kannada Activists Asking IT Companies?
The organisation wants IT companies to provide information about their recruitment process and employment statistics.
Some of the key details they are seeking include:
- Total number of employees working in the company.
- Number of Kannadigas currently employed.
- Number of local candidates recruited over the last three years.
- Recruitment policies followed by companies.
- Employment and training opportunities available for Karnataka youth.
The organisation believes that transparency in recruitment will help understand whether local candidates are receiving adequate opportunities.
Government's Response to the Campaign
The issue has also attracted the attention of the Karnataka government. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has appealed to Kannada organisations not to create difficulties for IT companies.
He suggested that organisations should bring their concerns directly to the government rather than approaching companies in a way that could affect their operations.
The government has also indicated that concerns regarding employment opportunities for Kannadigas can be discussed through the appropriate channels.
Why Has This Issue Become Important?
Bengaluru is widely recognised as India's leading IT destination. Thousands of technology companies operate in the city, attracting skilled professionals from different parts of the country.
However, the question of how much employment opportunity goes to local candidates has remained a sensitive issue in Karnataka.
Many Kannada organisations argue that local youth should not be left behind in their own state, especially when they have the required qualifications and skills.
At the same time, IT companies depend on talent from across India to maintain their growth and competitiveness.
Finding a balance between local employment expectations and the industry's need for skilled professionals will be important.
Campaign to Continue Across Karnataka
The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has reportedly planned to continue the campaign throughout November. The organisation intends to approach more companies, collect employment-related information and present its findings to the state government.
The response from IT companies and the government's next steps will determine how this campaign develops in the coming days.
Conclusion
The demand for more jobs for Kannadigas is not just an employment issue; it has also become an important political and social discussion in Karnataka.
While local youth expect better opportunities in their home state, Bengaluru's IT industry must also maintain an environment that attracts investment and skilled professionals.
The challenge for Karnataka will be to create more opportunities for local talent without affecting the state's position as one of India's biggest technology hubs.
