Raptadu Attack Case: Will Accused Hemanth Lose His Legs? Serious Questions After Police Firing

Reports about the severity of his injuries have raised questions about whether doctors might have to amputate his legs. The incident has attracted widespread public attention, with people demanding strict legal action and stronger protection for schoolchildren.
Police Firing Leaves Accused With Multiple Bullet Injuries
According to Anantapur district police, special teams traced Hemanth to the Atmakur forest area on Sunday evening, November 1.
Police officials said the accused allegedly resisted arrest, attempted to escape and attacked police personnel with a knife. Circle Inspector Venkateswarulu reportedly sustained injuries during the confrontation.
After warning shots failed to stop him, police opened fire in self-defence. According to the police account, six rounds were fired, leaving Hemanth seriously injured.
He was subsequently taken into custody and shifted to Anantapur Government General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Will Hemanth's Legs Be Amputated?
The major question following the police firing is whether the accused could lose his legs because of the severity of his injuries.
According to reports, Hemanth suffered multiple bullet wounds below the waist. The extent of the damage to his bones, blood vessels, muscles and nerves will determine the medical treatment required.
Doctors may consider amputation in cases where severe injuries make it impossible to save a limb or when damaged tissue creates a serious threat to the patient's life.
However, as of November 2, there is no verified official medical confirmation that doctors have decided to amputate his legs.
Raptadu School Attack: Two Students Were Targeted
The case relates to the shocking attack at Raptadu Zilla Parishad High School in Anantapur district on October 31.
Hemanth allegedly entered a classroom carrying an electric chainsaw and attacked a 15-year-old Class 10 student identified as Gopika while classes were underway.
The attack caused severe injuries to the girl's head, face, neck and other parts of her body. Another student, Lakshmi, who attempted to protect her classmate, also suffered injuries to her legs.
The accused fled the school after the attack, triggering an intensive police search.
Gopika's Medical Treatment Becomes the Biggest Concern
Following the attack, Gopika was initially admitted to Anantapur Government General Hospital. Considering the seriousness of her injuries, she was later shifted to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru for advanced treatment.
According to updates shared by Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh, doctors successfully performed orthopaedic and plastic surgeries on the girl. She was shifted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
Her recovery remains a major concern for her family, classmates and the wider public.
School Safety and Justice Must Remain Priorities
The Raptadu incident has raised serious questions about security arrangements in government schools.
Parents expect educational institutions to provide a safe environment where children can attend classes without fear. The incident has highlighted the importance of visitor monitoring, school security arrangements and immediate emergency response systems.
The government and police must ensure a thorough investigation, collect all relevant evidence and pursue the case through the legal system.
Conclusion
The Raptadu school attack case has become one of the most disturbing incidents to emerge from Andhra Pradesh in recent days.
While the accused has sustained serious injuries in police firing, the possibility of leg amputation remains medically unconfirmed. The investigation must establish every detail of the attack and ensure accountability under the law.
Above all, the recovery of Gopika, support for the injured students and stronger protection for children in schools must remain the highest priorities.
