Chirag Paswan

Chirag Kumar Paswan (born 31 October 1982) is an Indian politician and former actor. He has been serving as the 19th Minister of Food Processing Industries since June 2024. He is also the 1st president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) since 2021 and served as the 2nd president of the party from 2019 to 2021. Additionally, he has been a Member of Parliament for the Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency since 2024. Chirag Paswan is the son of the late Member of Parliament and Union Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan.

Career in Acting:

He was born to Ram Vilas Paswan, a former Union Minister and founder of the Lok Janshakti Party, and Reena Sharma, a Punjabi Hindu air hostess from Amritsar. Paswan is a college dropout who left his Computer Engineering program after the third semester. Following his departure from college, he made his acting debut in the Hindi film Miley Naa Miley Hum (2011).

Career in Politics:

Paswan contested the 2014 elections for the Lok Janshakti Party from the Jamui constituency, winning the seat by defeating Sudhansu Shekhar Bhaskar of the Rashtriya Janata Dal with a margin of over 85,000 votes. He successfully retained his seat in the 2019 elections, garnering 528,771 votes and defeating Bhudeo Choudhary.

Paswan also runs an NGO called Chirag Ka Rojgar, which focuses on providing employment opportunities to unemployed youth in his state.

In the 2014 Indian general election, Paswan was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from Jamui, while his father secured a victory from the Hajipur constituency, both representing the Lok Janshakti Party.

On February 27, 2021, Paswan contributed 1.11 lakh for the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

However, on June 14, 2021, Chirag Paswan was replaced as the Lok Sabha leader of the LJP by his uncle, Pashupati Kumar Paras. The following day, Chirag expelled five MPs, including his uncle and cousin Prince Raj, for anti-party activities.

On June 10, 2024, Chirag Paswan was appointed as the Union Cabinet Minister for Food Processing in India under the BJP government.

Elections:

In the 2014 Indian general election, Chirag Paswan won the Jamui constituency as a candidate from the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). He successfully retained his seat in the 2019 elections, continuing his representation for the LJP. In 2024, Paswan won the Hajipur constituency as a candidate from the newly formed Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP(RV)], further solidifying his political career.
