Chirag Paswan Confirms LJP (Ram Vilas) Will Contest Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2027

Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has confirmed that his party will contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, marking a clear expansion of the party's electoral preparations in the state.
Paswan said the party is preparing for all 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. However, the final alliance structure and seat-sharing arrangement have not yet been decided. He said the party is prepared to contest under an alliance if one is formed, while also remaining prepared to contest independently.
Chirag Paswan Announces LJP's UP Election Plan
Paswan made the announcement during his interaction with young people at the 'Youth Bole Toh' programme in Prayagraj on September 28, 2026.
Speaking about the 2027 election, he made clear that there was no doubt that LJP (Ram Vilas) would participate in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly contest. He said the party was preparing for all 403 seats and would contest strongly in the state.
The announcement formalises the party's intention to participate in the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, although the eventual number of candidates and the constituencies in which they will contest will depend on the party's final electoral strategy.
LJP (Ram Vilas) Preparing for All 403 Constituencies
Uttar Pradesh has 403 Assembly constituencies, and LJP (Ram Vilas) has said that its organisation is being prepared with all of them in mind.
The party had already been working to expand its organisational presence in Uttar Pradesh before Paswan's latest announcement. Earlier reports also indicated that the party had begun preparations at the constituency level.
Paswan's statement therefore represents a continuation and formalisation of the party's preparations rather than a completely new initiative.
Alliance or Independent Contest?
The exact electoral arrangement remains open.
Paswan said it would be premature to comment on the final form of an alliance, but stressed that LJP (Ram Vilas) would contest the Uttar Pradesh election. He also said that if an alliance is formed, the party would contest under that arrangement, while it was prepared to fight independently if necessary.
LJP (Ram Vilas) is a member of the BJP-led NDA at the national level, but that does not establish a final seat-sharing arrangement for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. Reports indicate that discussions regarding the party's possible role in the UP contest remain open.
'Youth Bole Toh' Programme in Prayagraj
The election announcement came during Paswan's youth outreach programme in Prayagraj.
At the 'Youth Bole Toh' event, Paswan interacted with students and young people on issues including education, employment, skill development and political participation. He also encouraged young people to consider entrepreneurship and becoming job creators rather than focusing only on employment opportunities.
The programme formed part of the party's broader effort to engage directly with young voters and understand their concerns.
Focus on Youth Issues
During the Prayagraj interaction, Paswan also discussed issues affecting students and young people, including employment opportunities, competitive examinations and education.
He called for mechanisms through which young people could communicate their concerns through digital platforms. He also advocated the creation of a Youth Commission in Uttar Pradesh, referring to the existing commission in Bihar, and spoke about the need for a National Youth Commission.
These proposals formed an important part of the youth-focused outreach surrounding the party's preparations in Uttar Pradesh.
Expanding the Party's Presence in Uttar Pradesh
LJP (Ram Vilas)'s preparations indicate an effort to build a wider organisational network in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.
The party has previously discussed contesting all 403 seats and has been working on organisational preparations in the state. In September, reports said the party had identified 101 Assembly constituencies for particular organisational attention and appointed election in-charges for those seats.
The current plan, however, should be understood as preparation for all 403 constituencies; it does not necessarily mean that candidates have already been finalised for every seat.
Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2027
The 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election is expected to involve competition across all 403 Assembly seats.
LJP (Ram Vilas)'s confirmed participation adds another party to the state's pre-election organisational activity. The party is now preparing its organisation while leaving open the question of whether it will ultimately contest through an alliance or independently.
For now, the confirmed position is that Chirag Paswan's LJP (Ram Vilas) will contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election and is preparing for all 403 constituencies. The final candidate list, number of seats contested and alliance or seat-sharing arrangement will be determined at a later stage.
“LJP (Ram Vilas)'s announcement establishes its participation in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election and shows an effort to expand its organisational presence beyond its existing strongholds. The important unanswered question is the party's eventual alliance and seat-sharing arrangement, which Paswan has not yet finalised.”
