Donald Tusk Meets Narendra Modi as Poland Seeks Defence Industry Partnerships with India

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on October 22, 2026, as India and Poland explore opportunities to strengthen defence cooperation, trade and economic relations.
Tusk’s visit marks the first visit to India by a Polish prime minister in 16 years, according to The Indian Express. The discussions come as Poland seeks international partnerships for its defence industry and aims to expand economic engagement with India.
Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski, who is accompanying Tusk, said Poland’s defence industry is looking for partners and could supply India with modern equipment at competitive prices. His remarks underline Warsaw’s interest in building defence-related industrial cooperation with New Delhi.
Poland has strengthened its defence capabilities in response to security concerns arising from Russia’s war against Ukraine and its geographic proximity to both Russia and Ukraine. This experience could create opportunities for cooperation in defence manufacturing, technology and equipment, subject to the requirements and decisions of both governments.
Beyond defence, Poland is presenting itself as an attractive destination for Indian businesses seeking opportunities in the European market. Domanski described the Polish economy as one of Europe’s fastest-growing large economies and projected growth of 3.6 per cent for 2026.
The proposed engagement could provide a platform for discussions on investment, industrial partnerships, trade and broader strategic cooperation. India’s expanding defence manufacturing ambitions and Poland’s established defence sector may offer areas of mutual interest.
However, any specific defence agreement, equipment purchase or manufacturing partnership would depend on the outcome of bilateral discussions and subsequent official announcements.
The visit reflects the potential to deepen India–Poland relations across defence, economic development and business cooperation, while strengthening engagement between India and the wider European region.
