Rahul Gandhi’s Rally: A Call to Address Inequality and Injustice

Critique of Modi’s Policies

During a recent rally for the Haryana elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sharply criticized the Modi government’s policies. He focused on the stark financial inequality illustrated by the extravagant Ambani wedding. Gandhi labeled this inequality an “attack on the Constitution”.

The Ambani Wedding

In Bahadurgarh, Gandhi engaged the crowd by asking, “Have you seen the Ambani wedding? They spent crores on it. Whose money is this? It’s your money.”

He continued, “You take out loans for your children’s weddings, while a select few spend lavishly. If this isn’t an attack on the Constitution, then what is?” This emphasis highlighted the need for change, which the Congress party aims to achieve.

Disparity in Spending

To put this into perspective, consider an individual with a net worth of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Such a person might spend Rs 10-15 lakh on their child’s wedding.

In contrast, those worth up to Rs 10 crore could spend as much as Rs 1.5 crore. This spending typically accounts for about 5-15 percent of a person’s total wealth in India. The Ambani wedding budget stands out as particularly striking.

Neglecting the Poor

Moreover, Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of neglecting the poor and marginalized communities. He shared a small business owner’s experience during a rally in Sonepat. The owner lamented, “Modi and the Haryana government destroyed me” due to policies like demonetization and GST.

Gandhi argued that these measures specifically benefitted billionaires like Adani and Ambani.

Closing Opportunities

“Everyone knows that the central and Haryana governments benefit two or three billionaires,” he stated. He further emphasized, “All the employment opportunities that existed have shut down”.

By pointing out the closure of small and medium businesses in Haryana, Gandhi underscored the significant loss of jobs in the state.

Criticism of the Agniveer Scheme

In addition, Gandhi criticized the Agniveer scheme. He described it as a way to “steal” benefits from soldiers, including their pensions and canteen facilities.

Furthermore, he alleged that the government was privatizing public sector factories to favor individuals like Adani and Ambani.

Questions About Accountability

Gandhi also accused the government of “stealing” defense budgets to benefit Gautam Adani. He raised serious concerns about drugs seized at Adani’s Gujarat port.

Gandhi questioned Modi‘s response: “When thousands of kilograms of heroin were seized from your friend Adani’s Mundra port, what action did you take? How many people did you send to jail for this?”

Youth and Migration

Moreover, Gandhi argued that the lack of jobs in Haryana drives young people to seek illegal means to migrate abroad.

He asserted that the government undermines the Constitution by favoring capitalists. He stated, “When the RSS places its own people in institutions and excludes Dalits, backward classes, tribals, and the poor, they are attacking the Constitution.”

A Call to Action

In conclusion, Gandhi‘s rally served as a passionate call to action. He aimed to address the growing inequality and injustices faced by ordinary Indians. His statements reflect a commitment to championing the rights of the marginalized.

Gandhi‘s message emphasizes the need for a government that serves all citizens, not just the privileged few.
