Allegations of Outdated Data Usage
As the vote counting for the Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections unfolds, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Pawan Khera are actively raising alarms about the slow updates on election trends. They criticize the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that the party uses outdated data to influence the administration.
Ramesh’s Social Media Warning
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Ramesh expressed his concerns directly. He noted similarities to the Lok Sabha elections, stating, “Similar to the Lok Sabha elections, we’re seeing a delay in updating the latest trends on the ECI website in Haryana. Is the BJP attempting to exert pressure on the administration by disseminating outdated and misleading information?”
Filing a Complaint with the Election Commission
Moreover, Ramesh elaborated on the situation by indicating that Congress would submit a memorandum shortly. “We will be submitting a memorandum in the next 5-7 minutes to file a complaint. We expect the Election Commission to respond to our concerns,” he said.
Additionally, he pointed out a troubling issue regarding the results. “While results for 10-11 rounds are already available, only 4-5 rounds have been updated on the EC website. This appears to be a tactic to pressure the administration,” he added.
Khera Highlights Data Discrepancies
Similarly, Pawan Khera echoed these sentiments during an interview. He emphasized the discrepancies between the actual rounds counted and the data displayed on television. “There is a mismatch between the actual number of rounds counted and what is being shown on TV from the Election Commission,” he stated.
Furthermore, Khera noted that the Election Commission‘s data is lagging behind. “They’re still displaying results from the 4th or 5th round, while 11 rounds have already been counted,” he remarked.
A Comparison Between Regions
Khera also highlighted a key difference in how data is handled between the two regions. In Jammu and Kashmir, officials provide live updates for each counted round. However, this is not the case in Haryana.
He reiterated the party’s concerns by stating, “Our General Secretary for Communications has tweeted to the Election Commission, asking—are you trying to exert pressure on the local administration by delaying the display and uploading of data?”
