Why was there a protest in Gairsain?

On 27th October 2026, during the budget session at Gairsain Vidhan Sabha, workers of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, Congress and Swaraj Party held a big protest. The rally started at 11 AM from Gairsain market. Their first demand was to declare Gairsain as permanent capital. Other demands were priority in government jobs for hill youth and strict law for women's safety.

What did police do? How did video go viral?

Police had put up 3-layer barricades 500 meters before Vidhan Sabha. When workers tried to cross barricades, police used water cannons to stop the crowd. Many videos of this incident went viral on Facebook and Instagram. People from Chamoli, Pauri and Rudraprayag shared the videos widely. As per local media, some workers were also detained.

Why is Gairsain issue important for Election 2027?

Gairsain was the centre of Uttarakhand state movement. People fought for hill identity. Even after 25 years, Dehradun is still the temporary capital. So hill people are angry. BJP says Gairsain is summer capital and development is happening, but protesters say all departments should shift there.

What will be the impact of this protest?

After this protest, there is new energy among hill youth. On social media, people are writing that they will vote for the party which makes Gairsain permanent capital. It will directly impact at least 20 hill seats in the 2027 election. So Gairsain protest has now become the biggest issue before the election.
