INDIA Bloc Announces Six-Point Action Plan: Save Democracy Marches, EC Protest and November 1 Rally

The INDIA bloc has announced a six-point action plan following a meeting of Opposition leaders in New Delhi on September 30, 2026. The programme includes district-level “Save Democracy” marches, a march by Opposition MPs to the Election Commission, a proposed meeting with the President of India, five major rallies and a mega rally in Delhi on November 1.
The Opposition parties said the campaign will focus on electoral issues, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and their concerns regarding the functioning of the Election Commission. The programme is intended to coordinate activities of INDIA bloc parties at the national and district levels.
Six-Point Programme Announced by INDIA Bloc
1. Save Democracy Marches From October 2 to 8
The INDIA bloc will organise district-level “Save Democracy” marches from October 2 to October 8.
The demonstrations are planned outside district magistrates’ offices, with Opposition parties, civil society groups and other participants expected to take part. The campaign will focus on the bloc's concerns regarding electoral rolls and democratic institutions.
2. Opposition MPs to March to Election Commission on October 6
All Opposition MPs have been asked to participate in a march to the Election Commission on October 6.
The march is part of the INDIA bloc's wider campaign concerning the SIR exercise and other electoral issues. Opposition leaders have raised questions about the electoral-roll revision process, while the Election Commission has defended its procedures and announced measures concerning SIR implementation.
3. INDIA Bloc to Seek Meeting With President
The Opposition alliance will seek an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu during the second week of October.
The leaders plan to submit a representation covering what they describe as concerns involving constitutional institutions and electoral matters.
4. Five Major Rallies Planned
The INDIA bloc has also announced five major rallies as part of its wider campaign.
The rallies are intended to take the alliance's concerns over electoral processes and the SIR issue to a larger public audience. The campaign is expected to continue through October and into November.
5. Mega Rally in Delhi on November 1
A major rally has been scheduled in Delhi for November 1.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge announced the rally after the INDIA bloc meeting. The event is expected to bring together leaders and supporters of the opposition parties as part of the broader campaign on electoral issues.
6. Appeal for Faster Disposal of SIR Cases
The INDIA bloc leaders also agreed to appeal for an early resolution of cases concerning the SIR exercise and other electoral matters pending before the Supreme Court.
The demand comes amid ongoing legal proceedings and political disagreements surrounding the electoral-roll revision process. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition challenging aspects of the Election Commission's functioning and the SIR exercise.
INDIA Bloc Focuses on Electoral Issues
The six-point programme comes amid continuing political debate over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Opposition parties have alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision process and have demanded greater transparency. The Election Commission, meanwhile, has issued clarifications and announced procedural changes, including measures relating to hearings, deadlines and voter facilitation.
The INDIA bloc's latest programme therefore combines political mobilisation, public demonstrations and legal action over electoral matters.
Opposition Parties Seek Coordinated Campaign
The September 30 meeting brought together leaders of several Opposition parties to discuss a joint response to the electoral issues.
The alliance's programme includes both national-level actions and district-level mobilisation. The planned marches and rallies are intended to coordinate the participating parties around their concerns regarding the Election Commission and electoral-roll revision.
BJP Criticises INDIA Bloc Campaign
The BJP has criticised the INDIA bloc's planned campaign. BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan questioned the opposition alliance's unity and described its proposed “Save Democracy” campaign in political terms.
These statements are the BJP's political response to the Opposition programme. The INDIA bloc has maintained that its campaign is focused on electoral issues, democratic institutions and concerns surrounding the SIR process.
Expert View
The six-point programme gives the INDIA bloc a coordinated schedule of protests, public rallies and institutional representations from October through November. Its effectiveness will depend on how consistently the participating parties implement the programme across states and how the Election Commission and courts respond to the issues being raised.
Current Status
As of September 30, 2026, the INDIA bloc has announced district-level marches from October 2 to 8, an Opposition MPs' march to the Election Commission on October 6, a proposed meeting with the President in the second week of October, five major rallies and a November 1 mega rally in Delhi. The alliance has also said it will seek faster resolution of pending SIR and electoral cases before the Supreme Court.
