INDIA Bloc Plans Symbolic Protest Against Chief Election Commissioner Ahead of Delhi Rally

Opposition parties under the INDIA bloc are preparing a fresh political campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The leaders plan to hold a symbolic public protest against him and organise a major rally in Delhi on November 1.
The campaign is linked to the ongoing disagreement over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have raised questions about voter-list changes and demanded accountability from the Election Commission.
A Symbolic Protest Planned by Opposition Leaders
The INDIA bloc had planned a public event at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan to protest against the Chief Election Commissioner. However, the authorities did not grant permission for the proposed event at that location.
Following this, opposition leaders discussed holding a symbolic programme at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in Delhi on Saturday.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is expected to chair the programme. Kharge is expected to begin the proceedings, while Rahul Gandhi is expected to make the concluding remarks.
The proposed event has been described as a public or symbolic impeachment. It is important to understand that this is a political protest and not a formal impeachment or removal process under the Constitution.
Why Is the Opposition Targeting the Election Commission?
The disagreement is mainly about the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
The Election Commission carries out electoral-roll revision to update voter information, remove duplicate or incorrect entries and include eligible voters. Opposition parties have questioned the way the exercise is being conducted and raised concerns about possible removal of genuine voters.
The INDIA bloc has accused the election authorities of not addressing its concerns properly. The opposition has also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Election Commission and the BJP have rejected allegations that the voter-list exercise is being used to favour the ruling party. The disagreement remains a political issue, and allegations made by either side should not be treated as proven facts without supporting evidence.
November 1 Rally in Delhi
The INDIA bloc is also preparing a public rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1.
Rahul Gandhi has appealed to people to take part in the rally. Opposition leaders want to bring together workers and supporters from different parties to raise their concerns about electoral processes.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has asked party MPs to remain in Delhi from October 30 to November 1. The party is also seeking strong participation from its state units.
What Is the BJP's Position?
The BJP has rejected the opposition's allegations against the Election Commission. The ruling party has defended the voter-list revision process and questioned the opposition's criticism.
BJP leaders have described the opposition campaign as politically motivated. The BJP's position is that updating voter lists is necessary to maintain accurate electoral records.
The disagreement has now become a major political issue between the ruling party and the opposition alliance.
What Happens Next?
The November 1 rally will be an important event for the INDIA bloc. It will show how many opposition parties take part and what demands they place before the public.
The Election Commission's response and any further official information about the voter-list revision will also remain important.
For now, the opposition is continuing its campaign through public meetings and political protests, while the BJP and election authorities have defended the revision process.
The issue is likely to remain part of the national political debate as parties continue to discuss voter registration, election management and the role of independent institutions.
