In his letter, the LG highlighted a communication from JKNC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, dated October 11. This letter announced that Omar Abdullah earned unanimous support as the Leader of the Legislature Party. “I am pleased to invite you to form and lead the Government of Jammu and Kashmir,” the LG stated. His words demonstrate strong confidence in Abdullah’s leadership.

A Coalition of Support

Additionally, LG Sinha emphasized the broad support he received from various political figures. This includes J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hammed Karra, CPI(M) secretary GN Malik, Aam Aadmi Party national secretary Pankaj Kumar Gupta, and five independent members. Their collective backing reinforces the desire for stable governance in the region.

The Oath-Taking Ceremony

The letter also outlined the details of the upcoming ceremony. “In accordance with our prior arrangement, I will administer the Oath of Office and Secrecy to you and those you recommend for induction into your Council of Ministers at SKICC, Srinagar, on October 16, 2024, at 11:30 AM,” it stated.

Furthermore, the LG expressed his wishes for a productive tenure. He emphasized the importance of serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Staking a Claim for Governance

Earlier that day, Omar Abdullah formally claimed his right to lead the government. He met with LG Sinha at the Raj Bhavan and presented letters of support from the NC, Congress, CPI(M), AAP, and independent candidates. This united front showcases strong backing for his leadership and sets the stage for collaborative governance.

“I’ve just returned from a meeting with LG Manoj Sinha,” the JKNC vice president remarked to the media. “I presented support letters from various parties and requested a date for the oath-taking ceremony as soon as possible.”
