Bihar has suffered from issues like unemployment, sluggish industrial growth, and a lack of infrastructural development. Though Nitish Kumar’s government is been making efforts towards growth, but still they remain unsure whether voters will prioritizing economic Growth over caste politics. Now, as the state shifts its focus towards these elections, the efficiency of Bihar’s economy will come under scrutiny.
Understanding Bihar’s Economy
Counted among one of the poorest states, Bihar has a population of over 120 million people as of now. Their youth migration in search of a better paying job has led to higher levels of unemployment with low levels of agricultural and infrastructural development. Progress has been, however, seen in the field of education. With elections drawing closer, tackling economic growth while garnering votes will be essential in overshadowing caste issues.
Bihar and It’s Caste Issues
Two major political parties in Bihar depend on the caste system to draw votes. RJD depends on backward votes, JDU derive their support from OBC and upper caste, while BJP stands among the upper caste individuals. Loyalty towards their caste makes it easier for politicians to veer away from important matters to citizens. But with elections nearby, people will have to opt for economic and employment growth.
Shifting Towards Development
While it’s still unsure whether caste remains a strong influence in voting, It is clear that young People in Bihar values job opportunities.
