JDU’s Strategy to Win Dalit Votes Ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections
As the Bihar assembly elections approach next year, the Janata Dal (United), led by Nitish Kumar, is intensifying efforts to attract Dalit voters. This group, comprising 19.65% of the state’s population according to a recent socio-economic survey, is crucial for political success.
‘Bhim Sansad’ on Samvidhan Diwas
To engage the Scheduled Caste community, JDU leader and state minister Ashok Choudhary announced a ‘Bhim Sansad‘ event on November 26. This date marks Samvidhan Diwas, which is a significant day for the SC community.

Choudhary emphasized, “November 26 is ‘Samvidhan Diwas.’ It is the Constitution that granted rights to the SC community. We began celebrating this day last year, as it is one of the most important days for the SC community in both the country and the state”.
The Competitive Landscape
Furthermore, the race for Dalit votes is heating up. Various parties are vying for support, making the political landscape increasingly competitive. Within the NDA, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) led by Chirag Paswan claims to represent the Paswan community. Meanwhile, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), led by Jitan Manjhi, focuses on the Musahar community.
As a result, the JDU must work diligently to secure Dalit support while navigating the intensifying competition among these factions.

Future Initiatives: ‘Dalit Mahakumbh’
Looking ahead, the JDU has ambitious plans for a ‘Dalit Mahakumbh’ on April 14 in Patna. This event will commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Consequently, the gathering aims to unite Dalits from across the state, further solidifying JDU’s outreach efforts.
A Track Record of Empowerment
Moreover, Choudhary highlighted the party’s commitment to the community: “We aim to consolidate Dalit voters in support of the NDA ahead of the assembly elections. Our Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, has a strong record of empowering Dalits during his tenure”.
He pointed to achievements such as the categorization of Dalits, the caste census, and targeted government schemes for community betterment.

In conclusion, as the electoral landscape evolves, these initiatives will be crucial in shaping JDU‘s connection with the Dalit community. The focus on inclusivity and empowerment will ultimately be essential for the party’s success in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
