Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma Faces Row After Video of Alleged Slap During Road Inspection Goes Viral

New Delhi | September 28, 2026
Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma has found himself at the centre of a political controversy after a video circulating on social media appeared to show him allegedly slapping a man during an inspection of road repair work in the Vikaspuri area of West Delhi.
The incident took place while the minister was reviewing the condition of a road. According to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the person recording the inspection was one of its workers. AAP MLA Jarnail Singh shared the video on social media and accused the minister of losing his temper after questions were raised over the road work.
Soon after the video gained attention, Parvesh Verma released his own statement through social media. He claimed that some individuals present at the site had used abusive language against his family. While defending his actions, the minister also said that the situation should not have escalated in the manner it did.
The incident has intensified the political confrontation between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. AAP has demanded action against the minister, while BJP leaders have defended Verma's version of events.
Parvesh Verma became one of the BJP's most prominent leaders in Delhi after defeating former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi Assembly constituency in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. Following the BJP's victory in the election, he was inducted into the Delhi Cabinet under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and given charge of the Public Works Department.
Before entering the Delhi Cabinet, Verma had represented West Delhi as a Member of Parliament and has remained an influential Jat leader within the BJP.
The controversy has once again placed the spotlight on political conduct during public inspections. As of now, both parties continue to trade allegations over the incident, while the viral video remains a subject of public debate.
