Punjab Assembly Election 2027: AAP Launches Door-to-Door Campaign as Poll Battle Intensifies

Punjab, September 21, 2026: With the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections approaching, political activity in the state has entered a more active phase. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has formally begun a statewide door-to-door campaign, while opposition parties including the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) are also increasing their political outreach.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched the AAP's door-to-door campaign from Dhuri in Sangrur district. The campaign is scheduled to continue until October 20, with party leaders and workers visiting households across Punjab. AAP has prepared pamphlets highlighting what it describes as the government's achievements and also criticising the previous SAD-BJP and Congress governments.
The campaign follows AAP's formal launch of its election outreach in Ludhiana on September 19, where Mann unveiled the party's election (opens in a new tab) pamphlet. The party has been presenting its government record and welfare initiatives as key themes ahead of the 2027 polls.
Opposition Steps Up Preparations
The opposition parties (opens in a new tab) are also intensifying their activities ahead of the election. The BJP has launched a series of political yatras across Punjab, covering all 117 Assembly constituencies. The party has linked the campaign to its focus on the drug issue and its broader effort to expand its presence in the state.
The Congress is meanwhile working to strengthen its organisation ahead of the election, while the SAD is seeking to regain political ground in the state. Questions over possible political alliances, particularly between the BJP and SAD, remain part of the wider pre-election discussion.
