RGP Confident of Strong Public Support Ahead of Goa Assembly Election 2027

The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has expressed confidence in its grassroots support as it prepares for the Goa Assembly Election 2027. The regional party has stepped up organisational activities across the State and is seeking to expand its membership and village-level presence ahead of the election.
RGP leaders have pointed to the party's work over the past five years and its representation in the Goa Legislative Assembly as factors behind their confidence about continued public support.
RGP Strengthens Organisation Across Goa
RGP has recently launched a statewide membership campaign as part of its preparations for the 2027 Assembly election.
Party MLA Viresh Borkar said the organisation has formed its State Committee and District Committees across all three districts of Goa. Five Block Committees have also been established, while work on the remaining block-level committees is continuing.
The party has also announced its official spokespersons as part of the organisational restructuring.
RGP president Shavina Naik Shirodkar said the party would increase its village-level outreach through its district and block committees. She referred to the support the party received in the 2022 Assembly election and said its subsequent grassroots activities had helped build public confidence, according to the party.
Membership Drive Launched Ahead of 2027 Polls
The party's new membership campaign is open to people above 18 years of age who support its ideology and are not members of another political party.
RGP treasurer Candido Correa said the membership fee has been fixed at ₹5, with enrolment available through online channels as well as local party committees.
The membership drive is part of RGP's broader effort to strengthen its organisational network before the 2027 Assembly election.
RGP Appeals for Public Contributions
Alongside the membership campaign, RGP has appealed to the public for financial contributions to support its organisational activities and election preparations.
Viresh Borkar described RGP as a crowd-funded political organisation and said the party relies on public contributions for its activities. The party has also said that it intends to make its financial information available publicly.
Borkar also addressed reports concerning alleged financial irregularities involving former office-bearers. He said the party's Disciplinary Committee had investigated the matter and that action had been taken against individuals found responsible. He added that further details would be released after the party received its Chartered Accountant's report. These remain statements made by the party leadership.
RGP Denies Reports of a Party Split
RGP leaders have also rejected reports suggesting a split within the party.
Viresh Borkar said the party remained active across Goa and maintained that its official election symbol continues to be the football. He also alleged that misinformation was being circulated about the party's internal affairs and political alignments.
Congress-RGP Talks Ahead of 2027 Election
RGP's preparations are taking place alongside discussions with the Congress over a possible electoral arrangement for the 2027 Goa Assembly election.
Congress and RGP have already reached an in-principle understanding to work together for the election, although seat-sharing and other organisational details were still being worked out in September.
The two parties have subsequently held discussions on a possible common manifesto. Issues discussed include the proposed POGO law, Section 39A, preventing defections, law and order, environmental protection and Goa's financial situation.
Goa's Changing Political Landscape
RGP's organisational expansion comes as several political formations prepare for the 2027 Goa Assembly election.
The Congress-RGP discussions are one part of the developing political landscape, while the Aam Aadmi Party and Goa Forward Party have separately announced their "Goa First" alliance for the 2027 election.
With multiple parties and alliances preparing their organisational and electoral strategies, Goa's political activity is expected to increase as the Assembly election approaches.
Goa Assembly Election 2027
The Goa Legislative Assembly has 40 seats. Political parties are currently focusing on organisational expansion, membership drives, alliances, public outreach and preparations for candidate selection ahead of the 2027 election.
For RGP, the immediate focus is on strengthening its organisation at the district, block and village levels while expanding its membership base.
The party's leadership has expressed confidence in its existing grassroots support, but the eventual electoral outcome will depend on the campaign, candidates, alliances and voter response closer to the election.
