Lucknow, September 21, 2026: Political preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election are gathering pace, with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi inviting “like-minded” political parties to discuss a possible alliance. Owaisi said his party was prepared to work with other political groups and indicated that AIMIM would take a decision on its alliance strategy by October 2.
Owaisi's announcement comes as political parties across Uttar Pradesh increase their organisational activities ahead of the Assembly polls. AIMIM has been holding public meetings and visiting different constituencies as part of its groundwork. The party has indicated that it wants to strengthen its presence across several regions of the state before the election campaign formally begins.
AIMIM Begins Wider Outreach
During his recent programme in Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi said AIMIM was visiting constituencies to understand local concerns and build its organisation. The party's upcoming programmes include visits to areas such as Shravasti and Azamgarh, followed by meetings in western Uttar Pradesh.
Maharashtra's decision to declare 265 talukas drought-affected has triggered questions from both ruling alliance leaders and the Opposition. While some areas represented by Mahayuti leaders have been excluded, the MVA has questioned the transparency of the assessment process.
The AIMIM leadership has also been discussing the possibility of working with other opposition groups. Owaisi's latest statement puts alliance-building among the important issues being discussed by smaller and regional political parties ahead of the 2027 election.
Opposition Alliance Discussions
The possibility of wider opposition coordination is also being discussed among other Political Parties. The Samajwadi Party and Congress have been involved in discussions concerning their electoral relationship, although reports indicate differences over seat-sharing for the upcoming Assembly election.
AIMIM's decision to invite other parties for discussions adds another element to the developing alliance landscape. The final arrangements between political parties (opens in a new tab), however, will depend on future negotiations and decisions by the respective party leaderships.
BJP and NDA Prepare for 2027
The ruling BJP and its NDA allies are also continuing their organisational preparations. Apna Dal (Sonelal) president Anupriya Patel recently said the NDA would contest the 2027 Uttar Pradesh election together, while also calling on party workers to strengthen their organisation at the booth level.
BJP national president Nitin Nabin is also scheduled to undertake organisational programmes in Uttar Pradesh, with meetings and outreach activities planned in Meerut and Saharanpur.
As the election approaches, Uttar Pradesh's campaign is expected to focus on governance, employment, development, law and order, social welfare and representation. Different Political Parties are likely to present their programmes through public meetings, Rallies (opens in a new tab) and campaign Speech (opens in a new tab).
The state has 403 Assembly constituencies, making Uttar Pradesh the country's largest state Assembly and a major focus of national political attention. The 2027 election is expected to generate extensive political activity as parties finalise alliances, candidates and campaign strategies.
For AIMIM, the immediate focus is now on organisational expansion and discussions with potential allies. Owaisi's October 2 timeline could provide further clarity on the party's approach to alliances as preparations for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election continue.

The INDIA bloc has announced a nationwide campaign over concerns related to the Election Commission and electoral processes. The Opposition plans protests, a march to the Election Commission headquarters, and a legal challenge to provisions of the Chief Election Commissioner Act, 2023.
Discussions between Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) have intensified, with reports suggesting alliance talks and possible Cabinet representation. However, no official announcement has been made by either party.
With the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election approaching in 2027, the Samajwadi Party and Congress are working to strengthen their alliance after their improved performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Political observers believe the opposition has an important opportunity, but unity and effective seat-sharing will be crucial.
