On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi announced that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government will resume several key infrastructure projects. This includes much-needed road repairs that the BJP allegedly stalled while AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal was in jail.
At a press conference, Atishi emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the city’s infrastructure. She stated that repairing damaged roads is a top priority ahead of the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for early next year. The Public Works Department (PWD) has identified 89 roads that need repairs, and the government has already issued tenders for 74 of these projects. This proactive approach signals AAP’s determination to tackle longstanding infrastructure issues in the capital.
Progress on Pothole Repairs
Atishi also updated reporters on pothole repairs across Delhi. During a series of inspections, AAP leaders identified 6,671 potholes on various roads. Remarkably, the team has already filled 3,454 of these potholes. This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to resolving a problem that has plagued the city for years.
“We are determined to ensure that Delhi’s roads are in top condition before the elections,” Atishi stated. “The repair work is not just about infrastructure; it reflects our commitment to the people of Delhi.“
Kejriwal’s Call for Immediate Action
Arvind Kejriwal also addressed the press conference. He reflected on his time in jail and how it affected government projects. Kejriwal claimed that the BJP intentionally stalled various initiatives during his absence. “When I was in jail, the BJP put a stop to several important projects of the Delhi government. Upon my return, Atishi and I inspected the roads and found them in poor condition. I immediately wrote to her, requesting that she take swift action to ensure these roads are repaired without delay,” he said.
AAP’s Roadmap to Assembly Elections
As the AAP government prepares for the next assembly elections, it is focusing heavily on infrastructure development. Road maintenance has become a central issue. The identification of damaged roads and potholes, along with the government’s efforts to address these concerns, shows the party’s commitment to fulfilling its promises.
