In her address, Atishi expressed heartfelt gratitude towards Arvind Kejriwal, the beloved Chief Minister of Delhi and AAP’s national convener. “First of all, I want to express my gratitude to Arvind Kejriwal, my mentor and the esteemed Chief Minister of Delhi,” she said. “He entrusted me with this significant responsibility, and I am deeply honored. This opportunity reflects the unique platform AAP provides, enabling a first-time politician like me to become the Chief Minister of a state. I come from an ordinary family.”

Atishi continued, “Had I been in any other party, I might not have even received an election ticket. But Arvind Kejriwal placed his trust in me, making me an MLA and a minister, and now, entrusting me with the role of Chief Minister. While I am grateful for his confidence, I also feel a profound sense of sadness as Delhi’s Chief Minister, and my elder brother, Arvind Kejriwal, is stepping down today. On behalf of all AAP MLAs and the 2 crore people of Delhi, I want to affirm that there is only one Chief Minister of Delhi—Arvind Kejriwal.”

Atishi emphasized that such a transition is unique to AAP and Kejriwal’s leadership. “This kind of transition is only possible within AAP and under Arvind Kejriwal’s guidance,” she remarked. “The people of Delhi, AAP MLAs, and I, serving as Chief Minister for the interim period until the elections, will focus on a single goal: ensuring Arvind Kejriwal becomes Chief Minister of Delhi once again. My sole aim while holding this significant responsibility will be to safeguard the people of Delhi and manage the government under Arvind Kejriwal’s mentorship.”

Journey:

Atishi’s journey to this prominent role is marked by a distinguished academic and professional background. Born on June 8, 1981, to Delhi University professors Vijay Kumar Singh and Tripta Wahi, she attended Springdales School in New Delhi. She excelled in her undergraduate studies at St. Stephen’s College, graduating at the top of her class in history from Delhi University.

Her academic pursuits took her to Oxford University, where she earned a Master’s degree on a Chevening scholarship, followed by a second Master’s in Educational Research as a Rhodes Scholar. This robust educational foundation has significantly contributed to her career trajectory.

Atishi’s role as the head of the education ministry further elevated her profile within the party. Prior to this, she served as an advisor to Manish Sisodia, the former education minister, until April 2018. During her tenure, she was instrumental in implementing the ‘Happiness Curriculum’ and the ‘Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum’ in Delhi government schools. These programs were designed to enhance students’ emotional well-being and foster their skill development, reflecting Atishi’s commitment to educational reform.

As Atishi steps into her new role, Delhi watches closely, hopeful for the continued advancement of the initiatives she has championed and the impactful leadership she promises to bring.
