Atishi Set to Swear as Delhi New CM on September 21st

A New Era: Atishi Set to Swear as Delhi’s Chief Minister

Exciting times are ahead for Delhi as Atishi is set to take the oath as Chief Minister on September 21, alongside her ministers, following the announcement by AAP this Thursday. This marks a significant moment not just for Atishi but for the party as well, as they prepare to lead in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.

Continuity in Leadership

Under Atishi’s leadership, the new Delhi Cabinet will retain all current ministers, ensuring stability in governance. AAP sources have indicated that, with elections just around the corner, there won’t be any major “experiments” in the cabinet. Key ministers such as Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain will continue their roles.

Transition of Power

This transition follows Kejriwal’s resignation submitted to Delhi Lt Governor V.K. Saxena on Tuesday. With Atishi recently appointed as the Leader of the AAP‘s legislature party in the Assembly, she quickly moved to stake her claim for the formation of the new government.

According to reports, the Delhi Lt Governor has forwarded Kejriwal’s resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, proposing September 21 for Atishi’s swearing-in ceremony.

A Brief Tenure Ahead

The Council of Ministers in Delhi is composed of seven members, including the Chief Minister. However, the tenure for Atishi and the two incoming cabinet members will be relatively short, as the Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February next year.

A Multifaceted Role

In her previous role, Atishi managed 13 departments, including education, finance, revenue, PWD, and power. If she chooses to retain these responsibilities, it would be a notable instance of a Delhi chief minister handling multiple portfolios, especially since the outgoing Chief Minister Kejriwal did not hold any specific portfolio.
