Karnataka Assembly Election & Results Date Declared

Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) elections are scheduled to be held in Karnataka on 10 May 2023 to elect all 224 members of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on 13 May 2023.

The total electorate in the state were 5,21,73,579 of which there were Male Votar 2.62 crore ,  Female Votar 2.59 crore and 4,699 transgender voters. 16,976 centenarians, 12.15 lakh voters over the age of 80 and 9.17 lakh first-time voters were also included in the total. Moreover, 5.55 lakh voters were Not Able to vote or Transfer to their other state.

The Election Commission announced 58,282 polling stations for the election, out of which 24,063 were in urban areas and 34,219 in rural areas. The Commission announced that to ensure enhanced voter participation, 1,320 polling stations were to be managed by women, 224 each by youth and disabled personnel. 1.3 lakh vials of indelible ink were supplied by Mysore Paints and Varnish for the polls

Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 Live Updates: Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s office was calling the returning officers of various districts to find defects in the applications filed by Congress candidates and rectify the mistakes in the filings of BJP candidates contesting the Assembly election, news agency PTI reported. In response, Bommai termed Shivakumar’s allegations as “baseless, useless” and said, “What he is doing to Siddaramaiah is very well-known in the state. First, let him look into his party,” news agency ANI reported.

Meanwhile, Two BJP leaders, former MLA Vishwanath Patil Hebbal and Aravind Chouhan, quit the party and joined the Congress in the presence of Shivakumar in Bengaluru.

In other news, Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje has demanded action against him for allegedly seeking bribe while issuing B-Forms to his party candidates, news agency PTI reported. Karandlaje, who is also the convener of the BJP’s State Election Management Committee, alleged that Shivakumar has gone on record saying the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has collected money from the ticket aspirants, in violation of the poll code.
