Politics of Chattisgarh

Chhattisgarh is a state in central India with its own unique political landscape. As of IP update in September 2023, here’s an overview of the politics in Chhattisgarh:

  1. Political Parties: The two main political parties in Chhattisgarh are the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). These parties have been the primary competitors in the state’s elections. Other smaller parties and regional players also play a role in the state’s politics.

  2. Elections: Chhattisgarh holds elections for its Legislative Assembly every five years. The state has a unicameral legislature with 90 seats. The party or coalition with a majority in the assembly forms the government. The Chief Minister is the head of the government.

  3. 2018 Assembly Elections: In the 2018 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, the Indian National Congress (INC) emerged victorious, winning 68 out of the 90 seats. The INC formed the government in the state with Bhupesh Baghel as the Chief Minister.

  4. Chief Minister: As of my last update in 2021, Bhupesh Baghel was the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. He is a senior leader of the INC.

  5. Governor: Anusuiya Uikey served as the Governor of Chhattisgarh as of my last update.

  6. Political Issues: Chhattisgarh has faced various political and socio-economic challenges. One of the significant issues has been the insurgency led by Maoist groups in some parts of the state. The government has been working on addressing this issue through a combination of security measures and development initiatives.

  7. Tribal Influence: Chhattisgarh has a significant tribal population, and tribal issues often play a crucial role in state politics. Issues related to land rights, forest rights, and tribal welfare are frequently discussed.

  8. Development: Like many Indian states, Chhattisgarh faces challenges related to infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. Political parties often campaign on promises to address these issues.

  9. Agriculture: Agriculture is a crucial sector in Chhattisgarh’s economy. The state government has introduced various agricultural schemes to improve productivity and the well-being of farmers.
