History
The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) was formed on 5 October 2021 under the leadership of Chirag Paswan after the original Lok Janshakti Party split following the death of its founder, Ram Vilas Paswan, in 2020. The Election Commission subsequently recognised the two factions separately, with Chirag Paswan's faction taking the name Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
The party carries forward the political legacy of Ram Vilas Paswan, whose original Lok Janshakti Party was founded in 2000 with a focus on social justice and representation of Dalits and backward communities.
Under Chirag Paswan, LJP (Ram Vilas) has remained associated with the BJP-led NDA and has sought to strengthen its organisational presence beyond Bihar. The party's official website identifies Chirag Paswan as its president and Ram Vilas Paswan as its inspiration.
The party has also expanded its organisational structure through national, state, youth and women's wings. In August 2026, Chirag Paswan reconstituted the party's national executive, including new office-bearers and women members.
Achievements
LJP (Ram Vilas) won all five Lok Sabha seats it contested in the 2024 general election, strengthening Chirag Paswan's position within the NDA and giving the party representation in the Union government.
Chirag Paswan became a Union Cabinet Minister and continues to serve as Minister of Food Processing Industries as of 2026.
In the 2025 Bihar Assembly election, LJP (Ram Vilas) contested 30 seats as part of the NDA and won 19 seats, contributing to the alliance's overall victory in the State.
The party has maintained its political identity around social justice and representation of Dalits and other socially disadvantaged communities while continuing its association with the NDA. Its official platform also emphasises development and the vision of a developed India.
